WhiteTail Buck
This is a full-sized bronze whitetail buck; a 6-point in Canada & 12-point in the States!
This sculpture came about from an inquiry in 2020 to see if I had sculpted a buck. As I was considering the idea, a 5-pointer walked right up to the front of our place! I loved the idea and as art sales and public commissions had been slow due to Covid, I found myself with extra time to sculpt for my limited edition series for the first time in several years, so I got started right away!
With much help from my neighbours who supplied a wall mount, friends with enthusiastic critiques, and photos from a friends' collection, I was able to come out with this piece. We also have an Island close to where we live where lots of deer congregate and are too friendly. I was able to get quite close and actually take fairly accurate measurements with a tape measure without spooking them! I'm sure it looked weird from a distance, but it was very valuable information in getting the proportions correct!
I have enjoyed showcasing this buck in my front yard. He makes a great silhouette in all kinds of seasons and weather.
